The Moment That Changed Everything
I wasn’t always the kind of student you’d expect to run a tuition centre. In fact, I used to dread school. I was distracted, unmotivated, and honestly, just coasting through. Not exactly failing, but definitely not thriving either.
Then something happened.
Just a few months before my O-Levels, my math teacher gave me a card. There wasn’t a long message or anything fancy — just four simple words:
“I believe in you.”
That was it. But it hit me hard. For the first time, I felt seen. Not for the grades I had, or didn’t have, but for who I could become.
That one line shifted something inside me. I started trying again. Not because of pressure. Not because of fear. But because someone finally believed I could.
That feeling never left me. And years later, when I started teaching — I knew that’s what I wanted every child to feel too.
From One Student… to a Movement
I didn’t start with a fancy centre. It was just me, a foldable table, and a few students in my mum’s spare room. These weren’t your top scorers. These were the kids everyone had quietly written off.
Some couldn’t keep up in school. Some were labelled as “slow.” Some had tuition before but still struggled — because the pace was too fast, the worksheets were too hard, or they just didn’t learn the “usual” way.
But I saw something different. I saw potential.
And I thought, what if someone just slowed down and explained it differently?
