Small Group Tuition · Hougang, Singapore
Tuition Centre in Hougang Singapore
Your child isn’t bad at Maths.
They just stopped believing they could do it.
Here is what makes our tuition centre different:
👥 Small class size of 4-6 students – every child is seen
🔍 We find exactly where the understanding broke
💪 We help them believe they can do it again
We’ll tell you honestly what we see – and what we think the right next step is.
Maths · Science · English · Primary to Secondary
Most students don't struggle because they're not good enough.
It usually starts with one concept they didn’t quite catch. A lesson that moved too fast. A test that didn’t go well. Nothing alarming on its own.
But then something quieter begins to happen.
And over time…
Maths becomes something they avoid – and they start believing they’re just not good at it.
By the time most parents reach out to us, they’ve already spent months trying to help. Assessment books bought. YouTube videos watched. Evenings at the kitchen table going through the same questions again. Some have already tried another learning centre in Singapore.
And still – the frustration grows. The child shuts down.
I don't know how to help my own child.
Here's what we know after working with hundreds of students who were feeling left behind: most of them were perfectly capable of learning. They missed a few foundational concepts early on, got left behind when the class moved forward, and were never given the chance to go back and fill those gaps properly.
A child who believes they can't learn Maths isn't a child who can't learn Maths. They're a child who hasn't yet been taught in a way that works for them, and certainly one who hasn't had the chance to enjoy the learning process.
That's not a reflection of your child's ability. It's a reflection of what they haven't had access to.
A Team That Understands Both the Child and the Parent
"I started The Nuggets Academy because of four words a teacher once said to me.
I was struggling before my O-Levels. Not failing dramatically - just quietly losing ground, the way many of our students do. Then my Math teacher gave me a card. No long message. Just: I believe in you.
That was it. But it changed everything. For the first time, someone saw what I could become - not what I'd been scoring. I started trying again. Not from pressure. Not from fear. Because someone finally believed I could.
That feeling is what we try to give every child who walks through our door."
Sandra Lim, Founder - The Nuggets Academy
Over the past 16+ years, Sandra and her team have built one of the best tuition centres in Singapore for primary and secondary students – many of them children who have underwhelming track records, had already been written off by other centres, or who had stopped believing they could improve.
Her work has been recognised by CNA, MoneyFM 89.3, Kiss92, The Asian Parent, and Women’s Weekly – not for exam results, but for her approach to rebuilding confidence and changing how children relate to learning. In 2024, The Nuggets Academy was named a winner of the Singapore Education Awards.
As a parent herself, Sandra knows that behind every struggling child is a parent carrying their own weight – the worry, the guilt, the exhaustion of trying everything and still watching their child fall further behind.
Small class sizes
Max 6 students per teacher
Regular updates
You always know how your child is doing
Real partnership
Home and classroom working together
You are not just getting a teacher.
You are getting a dedicated team that is here to help you and your child every step of the way.
How we do it
Most tuition centres teach the class. We teach the child.

No long enrolment form. No placement test anxiety. Here is what happens when you reach out.
Book a trial lesson
Message us on WhatsApp. We will find a suitable class time and slot your child in for a trial. You also get a brief assessment of where your child currently is.
Your child meets the class
Classes run with 4 to 6 students. Our teachers slow down to help students get to where the understanding broke and rebuild from there - adapting to each child's learning style through clear explanations, not drilling.
You stay in the loop
After each lesson, you know what was covered and what your child should do at home. We do monthly check-ins and termly progress updates. If there's anything important we need to flag, we won't wait. We treat you as a partner, not a customer who drops off and picks up.
Parents don’t just sign up for lessons. They enter a process of assessment, placement, guided teaching, observation, feedback, reinforcement, and long-term confidence building.
Throughout the entire process, we keep parents informed – because progress is strongest when home and classroom are working together.
What Success Looks Like
Picture your child six months from now.
The first signs don’t show up on a report card. They show up in the small moments you almost miss.
Your child sits down and starts their homework – without you asking. They attempt a question instead of staring at it and giving up. They get something wrong, and instead of shutting down, they try again.
- Your child starts homework without being asked
- They attempt questions instead of giving up
- They start looking forward to class
- They ask for extra practice on their own
- The subject that caused arguments stops being a battle
This is not just tuition. This is confidence transformation and learning that actually sticks.
The Cost of Waiting
Gaps in understanding do not close on their own.
On the surface, it seems manageable. But in a classroom of 30 students, a teacher cannot stop for the two or three who lost the thread in week two. The lesson moves on. Your child writes down whatever they can, tells you it is fine, and quietly falls further behind.
By the time most parents reach out to us, their child has been struggling for a year or more. The content has stacked up. The anxiety has set in. And the child has started telling themselves a story:
Maths just isn't for me.
That story is not true. But it becomes harder to undo the longer it is left.
If your child is starting to show the signs – even small ones – this is the right time to find out what’s actually going on.
Trusted by Parents and Students
Real results. Real Families.
"After another tuition centre told my daughter she would never do better, Teacher Sandra and Teacher Belize helped her go from AL6 to AL2 in Maths - in just six months before PSLE. Despite joining late, they went the extra mile to make learning enjoyable and accessible for her. This remarkable improvement would not have been possible without their patience and personalised attention."- Chermaine Wong, parent of Odelia (P6)
"Before joining, my girl had no interest in Maths and her confidence had dropped. After being tutored by Teacher Sandra, she is now able to handle Maths with much more confidence - which has led to better results. She no longer feels Maths is difficult. She even requests extra practice papers from her school teacher so she can practise on her own."- Ann Duc, parent
"What was once her worst subject has now become her second best in her prelims. She used to dread Maths. Thank you for seeing her strengths, for the patient delivery, and for never giving up on her throughout the 1.5 years."- Harold Goh, parent
"All my kids truly enjoy their time at Nuggets Academy. The lessons must be very well-taught - my boy only did two test papers the night before the examination, yet he managed to score 90/100. Amazing results."- Chia Hui Min, parent
This is not just about grades. Every one of these children came in believing they couldn’t. They left believing they could.
Hear It From Our Student and Her Parent
In their own words.
Sometimes reading about it isn’t enough. Here’s a parent sharing their experience directly.

Is This Right for Your Child?
This works best for families who believe that confidence takes time to rebuild.
This is for your child if:
- They are in Primary 3 to 6, or Secondary 1 to 4
- They have been struggling for at least one term
- They avoid Maths - or feel anxious before tests
- They have tried other tuition but it did not click
- You want small-group teaching, not a 1-to-1 rate
- You are willing to be a partner in the process, not just a payer
This may not be the right fit if:
- Your child only needs exam paper drilling
- They are already scoring well and need extension content only
- You are looking for a large enrichment centre with many subjects
We would rather be honest upfront than take your money and underdeliver. If we are not the right fit, rest assured, you and your child will be pointed to a better direction.
If you are not sure which side you are on - that's exactly what the trial lesson is for. Come and see. There's no pressure either way.
Getting Started
Start With a Trial Lesson & Assessment.
Message us on WhatsApp
Tell us your child's level and subject. We will ask a few quick questions and suggest a suitable class slot - usually within 24 hours.
Bring your child for a trial
Your child attends one lesson inside the classroom, with no more than 6 students. Our tutors are ready to assess where your child is and what they need. No deposit, no paperwork, no pressure.
You decide - with full information
After the trial, you decide. If it feels right, we enrol your child. If not, there is no hard sell and no awkward follow-up. We only want children who want to be here.
The trial lesson is $50, fully offset against your registration fee if you enrol within 24 hours. If it's not the right fit, you pay only for the lesson.
We'll reach out within a few hours to understand your child's situation and
recommend the best next step.
